AMHERST, N.S. – Five people were convicted of various crimes in Amherst Provincial Court from March 25 to 28.

Collins sentenced for committing sexual assault

Kenneth Edward Collins, 48, of Prince Arthur Street, Amherst, was sentenced in court March 26 to a six-month conditional sentence, two-years probation, and 10 years registered under the Sexual Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) after pleading guilty to committing sexual assault.

The incident occurred Sept. 13, 2017, in Amherst.

Canton sentenced for trafficking oxycodone

Nicole Ann Canton, 33, of Salisbury, N.B., was sentenced in court March 28, to a conditional discharge following 12-months probation after being found guilty of possessing oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking, and for the unlawful possession of marijuana.

The incidents occurred Feb. 22, 2018, in Tyndal Road.

Fraser sentenced for possession illegal tobacco

Justin Fraser, 29, of Windmill Road, Dartmouth, was sentenced in court March 25 to a fine of $200,644 after pleading guilty to having in his possession tobacco on which tax had not been paid.

Fraser was fined an additional $57,600 for possessing unstamped tobacco, for a total fine of $258,244.

The incident occurred June 11, 2018, in Amherst.

LeBlanc sentenced to two years custody for break and enter

Jason Leroy LeBlanc, 42, of Rupert Street Amherst, was sentenced in court March 25 to two years custody after pleading guilty to two counts break and entering a garage with the intent to commit a crime therein.

The incidents occurred Nov. 15, 2018, in Amherst.

He was also sentenced to 30 days custody concurrent to other sentences after pleading guilty to having in his possession a stolen vehicle, the value of which exceeded $5,000..

The incident occurred Nov. 17, 2018, in Amherst.

LeBlanc was also sentenced to 30 days custody concurrent to other sentences after pleading guilty to stealing electronics from Walmart the value of which did not exceed $5,000.

The incident occurred Nov. 13, 2018, in Amherst.

He was sentenced to another 30 days custody concurrent to other sentences after pleading guilty to having in his possession a throwing knife for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

The incident occurred Jan. 9, 2019, in Amherst.

He was also sentenced to 30 days custody concurrent with other sentences after pleading guilty to the unlawful possession of methadone.

The incident occurred Jan. 9, 2019, in Amherst.

LeBlanc was sentenced to another 30 days custody concurrent with other sentences after pleading guilty to having in his possession a stolen Nova Scotia numbered license plate, the value of which did not exceed $5,000.

The incident occurred Feb. 18, 2019, in Amherst.

He was also sentenced to another 30 days custody concurrent to other sentences after pleading guilty to possessing a stolen vehicle, the value of which did not exceed $5,000.

The incident occurred Feb. 18, 2019, in Amherst.

LeBlanc was sentenced to another 30 days custody concurrent to other sentences after pleading guilty to two counts of failing without lawful excuse to comply with a daily curfew to stay in his residence from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The incident occurred Feb. 27 and 28, 2019, in Amherst.

Perley sentenced for refusing breathalyzer

Samuel Phillip Perley, 28, 0f Springhill, was sentenced in court March 25, after pleading guilty to refusing to comply with a demand from a peace officer for a sample of his breath to determine the level, if any, of alcohol in his blood.

The incident occurred July 30, 2017, in Springhill Junction.
