AMHERST, N.S. – The Cumberland Health Care Foundation, through its annual Light the Way equipment campaign is looking to raise $205,100 for a diagnostic imaging C-Arm for the operating rooms at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

“The C-Arm costs more than what we usually raise during Light the Way but it will be such a valuable asset to the hospital we felt that it was too important to pass up,” said managing director Gwen Kerr. “This piece of equipment can be used during surgeries, for examinations, pain clinic applications, tube insertions and more. Many, many patients will benefit from having a C-Arm available. We hope people and businesses will help us to reach our goal so we can purchase the C-Arm as soon as possible.”

Donations for hospital equipment can be made at any time of the year, but during Light the Way donors can include special tributes in memory or in honour of loved ones. Tributes are published in a book that is handed out during the Light the Way event on Nov. 28.

“Any tributes received before Nov. 23 will be included in the book,” added Kerr, “And donations received before Dec. 31 will be eligible for a 2018 tax receipt.”

One of the most important reasons for making a donation is to ensure that the best possible equipment is in place at the hospital when it is needed most.

“Our physicians, staff and patients are so appreciative of the support this community provides. We hear such wonderful stories of how positive outcomes are achieved all because of the kindness of our donors,” Kerr said.

This year’s Light the Way event at the hospital will be on Wednesday, Nov. 28, starting at 5:30 p.m. There will be animated lights, music, singing, children’s activities, refreshments and a special visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus and Matilda the Elf.

There is no admission and parking is free for the evening.
