UPPER NAPPAN – While it came up a little short, organizers with the Cumberland Health Care Foundation are thrilled with how the 2017 Light the Way Campaign went.

The foundation hoped to raise $98,168 for two pieces of equipment, but fell about $5,000 short, raising $93,121.

“The target for this year was a bit higher than our usual goal and we are delighted with the overall result of the campaign. Both the ultrasound for the maternity unit and the stretcher chair for ophthalmology will still be purchased,” said managing director Gwen Kerr. “We can receive donations to our equipment fund all year round and will work toward making up the difference over the next few months.”

Kerr said one new aspect of the campaign was the ability to purchase light dedications online.

“We have a marvellous website and when people looked through it they were drawn to many of our other foundation-funded programs, added Kerr. “We received many unexpected donations for Cumberland Cancer Assistance, Mental Health, Palliative Care, the Clara Bacon Bursary and our Garden Funds. Having these programs recognized by donors over the holiday season was a gift that meant a great deal for those that work in these areas and for the people served here in Cumberland.”
