AMHERST, N.S. — This is Canada Career Month in Amherst.
Obtaining meaningful work is something Canadians from coast, to coast, to coast strive for, Amherst Mayor David Kogon said in a news release.
“We must also take the time to recognize all those that help us obtain those meaningful jobs, such as the local Nova Scotia Works-CANSA office,” Kogon said. “They offer many educational programs and services that benefit people as they seek to find those jobs. I encourage the citizens of Amherst and surrounding area to take advantage of those programs and services as they seek to find meaningful work.”
According to the Canada Career Month webpage, November was dedicated Canada Career Month by the federal government to celebrate accessing meaningful work and to help Canadians advance “the agenda of improving access to career services and education so that all Canadians are better prepared to develop their careers and transition into the emergent labour market.”
In signing the proclamation before representatives of the Nova Scotia Works-CANSA office, the town joins many other communities across the country in participating in a nationwide celebration of careers.
“At Nova Scotia Works-CANSA the time for career decision making is an every-day event,” Elizabeth Cooke-Sumbu, the organization’s executive director, said. “We are so pleased to raise awareness this month, along with our colleagues across the province, on new opportunities, apprenticeship, career planning and much more for everyone from youth to older age workers. It’s never too early or too late to start!”
