SPRINGHILL – An 18-year-old Amherst teen was arrested without incident on Thursday afternoon after making a threat to take a weapon to the high school in Springhill.
In a news release later Thursday, RCMP said the man was arrested on Edgewood Avenue in Amherst.
Springhill RCMP responded to a complaint at Springhill Junior-Senior High School that someone was threatening to come to the school with a weapon.
The RCMP, with assistance from the Cumberland County Street Crime Enforcement Unit and Amherst Police, located an arrested the man at approximately 1 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
A hold and secure was put in place at the school for the morning. It was lifted at 1:15 p.m.
During the hold and secure, students were not permitted to leave the building, but they were still attending classes and moving throughout the building.
Students were dismissed 10 minutes earlier than normal.
