MONCTON, N.B. – A former River Hebert area man is going to prison for two years for his role in a high-speed chase in early December that started in Springhill and finished near Dieppe, N.B.
Nathan Donald O’Brien, 36, who now lives in Riverview, was sentenced in court in Moncton on Tuesday after pleading guilty to numerous charges including fleeing from police while being pursued, possession of a stolen vehicle of a value more than $5,000 and possessing a stolen licence plate and two stolen machetes, obstructing police, violating court orders that he not possess firearms or operate a motor vehicle and gun charges including unlawful possession of two sawed-off shotguns.
Christopher Lee Glennie, 42, is also facing a dozen charges and is still before the court. Glennie is also facing three charges of unlawful possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking in relation to Codiac RCMP investigation.
Members of the Southeast District RCMP in New Brunswick were asked to assist RCMP in Nova Scotia in the early evening of Dec. 4 following an alleged attempted armed robbery and home invasion in Springhill and a chase into New Brunswick.
RCMP in New Brunswick deployed a spike belt on the Trans-Canada Highway near Exit 467B in Painsec, N.B., near Dieppe. The vehicle came to a stop and the duo fled on foot, only to be apprehended in the woods after police dogs were deployed.
A New Brunswick RCMP officer was injured responding to the incident and was treated and released from hospital.
The pair also face charges in Nova Scotia in relation to the attempted robbery and home invasion. It’s not known when they will appear in court in Amherst for those charges.
