JOGGINS, N.S. - The first Joggins Research Symposium was held at the Joggins Fossil Centre on Sept. 22.
Hosted by the Joggins Fossil Institute, the symposium was attended by 25 eminent earth scientists from the Atlantic region and beyond, 12 of whom presented papers on their current research projects throughout the morning.
In the afternoon the group toured the world-famous Joggins Fossil Cliffs.
This symposium, hopefully the first of many, was held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the inscription of the cliffs as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Science Literacy Week.
Dr. Melissa Grey, organizer and director of science at the centre, is pleased with the day, “It was wonderful to have so many excellent research projects presented from such a diverse group of scientists, including professionals, students and citizen scientists. Participation exceeded expectation and we look forward to planning future events.”
