MARYSTOWN, N.L. — A man from North West Brook will face charges of impaired driving and uttering threats after an arrest on the Burin Peninsula highway near Goobies.
According to a release issued on March 21, RCMP says at 11 a.m. on March 16 they responded to a report of a disturbance on the Burin Peninsula Highway that took place between two individuals who had been traveling together inside a vehicle.
The passenger left the vehicle and contacted police to report being threatened and advised that the driver, who was now driving towards Clarenville, was intoxicated.
Officers from Burin Peninsula and Clarenville RCMP conducted patrols for the described vehicle, which was located on Route 210, near Goobies.
The vehicle was travelling in excess of 80 kilometres per hour above the posted 90 kilometres per hour speed limit.
The driver, 34-year-old Adam Vivian of North West Brook, was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, uttering threats, as well as uttering threats to a police officer.
The man provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit.
His vehicle was seized and impounded and he was issued a suspension of his driver’s licence.
He was also issued a traffic ticket for speeding 51 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limit.
Vivian has since been released and is set to attend Clarenville Provincial Court for charges of uttering threats to a police officer and impaired driving. He also has a court date set for Grand Bank Provincial Court for charges of uttering threats against the vehicle passenger.
