AMHERST, N.S. – The Amherst Police Department is again hosting its cram a cruiser event in the Amherst area.

The department’s crime prevention cruiser will be parked at various locations throughout the town and people will be urged to “cram” the cruiser with non-perishable food items and coats. The food items will be donated to the local food bank.

The campaign is also looking for gently used coats and/or winter wear that can be donated as well in support of the Coats for Cumberland campaign.

What’s needed are all sizes of winter wear but in particular, there is a need for sizes 8 and up for boys, and plus sizes for adults.

There has also been a strong need for snow pants as well.

On Nov. 8, the cruiser will be at Spring Street Academy from 8 to 9 a.m., West Highlands Elementary from 11 a.m. to noon, E.B. Chandler Junior High from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Springhill Foodland (in partnership with the Springhill RCMP) from 3 to 6 p.m. and at the Sobeys parking lot from 5 to 8 p.m.

On Nov. 9, the cruiser will be at Cumberland North Academy from 1 to 2 p.m. in partnership with the Cumberland RCMP’s Amherst detachment and at the Walmart parking lot from 5 to 8 p.m.
