AMHERST, N.S. – A 46-year-old Amherst man is facing several charges following an incident Sunday at a downtown area bar.
The man had been asked to leave the bar by bouncers, but refused. Police also asked him to leave and he refused. The man shoved an officer and was arrested. While being placed in custody, the man resisted and attempted to fight with multiple officers on scene.
An officer deployed a taser during the incident.
The man has been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, three counts of resisting arrest, a single count of uttering a threat, two counts of causing a disturbance, one count of possessing a Schedule 1 drug and three liquor control charges.
He will appear in court for plea on Nov. 19.
It was one of 91 incidents officers responded to between Oct. 8 and 14.
On Friday, Oct. 12, a 43-year-old woman was arrested for four breaches of her recognizance after police did a compliance check at her Smith Street residence.
She had breached her conditions not to consume alcohol, was in the presence of others with a criminal record and was not to have any visitors at her residence.
She pleaded guilty in provincial court on Oct. 15 to one of the charged and was sentenced to time served.
The three remaining charges were withdrawn by the Crown.
A 25-year-old man was charged with breaching his conditions after failing to abide to his curfew.
Charges are pending and no court date has been set.
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, an 18-year-old man was charged with operating a motor vehice in a manner that causes loud and unnecessary noise after an officer observed him squealing the tires of his vehicle in the Amherst Town Square Mall parking lot.
Police also received a report of a vehicle collision at the intersection of Havelock and Clifford Street.
A woman reported she had been driving her vehicle on Havelock and was attempting to turn onto Clifford when a silver SUV went through the stop sign at the intersection. The woman attempted to avoid a collision it the SUV and struck a parked vehicle.
The SUV did not stop after the collision and continued driving toward Academy Street.
Witnesses said the vehicle then drove up the side lawn of Spring Street Academy school.
Police could not locate the vehicle after patrolling the area.
The occupants of the collision were shaken up but uninjured.
An investigation is continuing.
A 22-year-old woman is facing several charges after attempting to impersonate another woman during a traffic stop on Sunday, Oct. 7.
During the stop, she was issued two summary offence tickets for motor vehicle offences. She had posed as a 23-year-old woman.
Also on Oct. 10, police were called to investigate a fraud at an Amherst residence.
The resident had received an email from a fraudster claiming they had installed malware on the victim’s computer.
The scammers then stated the malware showed pornographic material and threatened to send images of the victim watching the material to personal contacts. Scammers requested $7,000 in bitcoin.
The victim did not send money, but the scammers were able to take $200 from the victim’s bank account.
Police are investigating the incident.
On Oct. 11, a South Albion Street gas station reported receiving a counterfeit $20 bill. The bill was used by a man after he made several purchases at the store.
Police are attempting to get video surveillance so they can identify the culprit.
