Start summer off with some family fun!

Kicking off this weekend is the A Team’s Summer Kick off at Dickey Park Friday evening along with a kite display and a Trail Flow Portable Bike Park. Bring your bike and helmet to test out the jumps and bumps this cool course has to offer.

The bike park, in partnership with the Amherst Police Department, is part of Cumberland Bike Week and is made possible by the following sponsors:  CIBC Wood Gundy Investors, Harrison’s Home Hardware, Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Co-Operators, and the Amherst Junior A Ramblers.

Join the Family First Program Leaders in some Hawaiian fun with a luau dance party, sparkle tattoos, crafts & more!

Our Family First Summer Program schedule is now available with lots of fun activities for the whole family!  Join us for park days, Terrific Tuesday activities, Active Family Fun evenings, Craft Corner, Tennis, and so much more!  This family first initiative is offered as part of our goal to be the most active, healthy community in Nova Scotia.

Also, taking place this weekend is the ‘A Summer Kickoff festival’ featuring the 10th annual Cross Border Challenge run or walk across the famous Tantramar marsh, plus a weekend filled with fun.  Other events include a spaghetti dinner, family fun at the YMCA with bouncy castles & a swim, Beer Garden featuring Big Fish, and a pancake breakfast fundraiser. Visit for more information.

Our Beautification Leaders are glad to see the frost go, as they are busy planting flowers throughout the community and watering the freshly hung hanging baskets.  Robb Complex leaders are busy mowing and maintaining the fields for ball. Let’s all continue to work hard to keep Amherst a great place to live, work and play. Put litter in its place and help us keep Amherst clean, green and tidy.   For park or facility maintenance issues, please call 902-667-6500 or email

Rev up those engines, the Cumberland County Car Club Annual Show & Shine will be set up at the Robb Complex on Sunday with registration starting at 9 a.m.  This is the Maritimes biggest showing of pre-40s original vehicles including street rods, antiques, tuners, antique tractors & farm machinery, motorcycles, and more. Prizes and giveaways made throughout the day and free T-shirts to the first 100 participants.
