Hello from beautiful downtown New Salem

The Firemen’s Bazaar is coming on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. from the Advocate School to the Advocate Fire Hall and the walkers will walk from the school to the post office.

Registration for the parade will start at 10 a.m. at the school. Once at the fire hall there will be a canteen, games of chance, vendors tables at $10per table (please contact Brady Aris for more information), 50/50 tickets, tickets on one cord wood (20” cut, split and delivered Apple River to Parrsboro and donated by Rodney Morris), music inside after the parade.

There will also be Open Mic at 7 p.m. at the fire hall. There will also be an online auction and you will be able to pick up your items on the day of the bazaar.

If you wish to donate to the auction you can contact Brady Aris or one of the firemen or women. This is the firemen’s big fundraiser for the year so come on out for a great day and evening of fun!

It is that time of year. The ducks are all rested up after a long winter and ready for the big duck race on Aug. 10.

The race will be at 4 p.m. at the Advocate Harbour Wharf. If you would like to purchase a duck they are $5 and the prizes are $100 for first place, $75 for second place, $50 for third place and a Wild Caraway gift certificate for fourth place. Fifth place is Hook & Anchor gift certificate and sixth place a Hanham’s Home Slice gift certificate.

On Saturday, Aug. 10 there will be a roast beef and salad supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Logg Building on the Mills Road.

Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12.

Vacation Bible School will be open the week of July 17 to the 21 in the mornings. You can contact Howie Makofsky for more information.

On Tuesday, July 23 there will be a community luncheon at the Log Building at noon. On the menu is a lobster roll, salads, strawberry shortcake, tea and coffee. Cost adults $12 and children under 12 $6.

If you don't like lobster you can have ham and cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

The Advocate Volunteer Fire Brigade Ladies Auxillary Bingo will be held Friday, July 19 at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m. Come on out for an evening of fun and there is also a canteen and 50/50 draw.

On Saturday, July 27 and Open Mic will be held at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m.. There will be a canteen and 50/50 draw.

Come on out for a great evening of great music and fun! Proceeds are for the Advocate & District Volunteer Fire Department.

On Saturday mornings the Downshore Market will be open for the season from 9 a.m. to noon at the Log Building. Enjoy a morning of social time with friends new and old and enjoy the vendors wares also.

On Tuesday evenings the Advocate Harbour Community Chorus is being held at the Advocate United Church at 7 p.m. This is not a church choir but an open community chorus for everyone to enjoy and sing together. All are welcome!

On Sundays the Spencer's Island Craft and Farmers Market is open from 1 to 4 p.m. at 69 Beach Rd. in the Spencer's Island Community Hall off Highway 209, next to the Sun Moon and Stars!
They are pleased to announce a variety of new artisans who will be joining their quaint market this year. You will see lots of new smiling faces, artistic crafts such as; useful handmade wooden articles, handmade knitting, hooked rugs and toys; handmade jewelry; eco thermos bottles with beautifully applied designs; personalized wooden, glass, sewing and signs; handmade soaps, beeswax candles balms, creams, eco food wraps, and variety of honey and maple products; a variety of fresh locally grow seedlings, plants, vegetables (when is season), herbs, herbal tea blends and meals in a jar; and of course they have a variety of baking going on this year.

There is something for the whole family so take a drive and enjoy a Sunday afternoon, walk the beach and join them at The Spencer's Island Craft and Farmer's Market. Contact Margie if you have questions at 902-348-2900.

Tai Chi is being held at Chignecto Manor on Thursday evenings at 7.

The Meals on Wheels program that operates from the Bayview Health Centre is seeing an increase in customers and they now need more volunteers to deliver meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

If you can help with deliveries or would like to receive this service yourself, please call the Health Centre at 902-392-5400: the kitchen at extension 6035 or the office extension 5402.

The Advocate United Church Service will be held at the Advocate United Church at 8:30 on Sunday mornings for the summer and fall.

Sunday School will be held at Chignecto Manor at 10 a.m. on Sundays.
