The open mic music night at the Diligent River Hall was a huge success. The hall was filled to capacity and many had to stand.
The talent was outstanding as music came from far and near. I wish I could name each and every person who took to the stage but I don’t have that information.
The organizers wish to thank each who took part in any way. The 50/50 draw was $88 for the evening. Several ladies worked in the kitchen, including Trish Boland, who came from P.E.I. to help her mom, Gale. Thanks to Dave and Elaine Baker for the set-up and to Claude Lamb and Fibber Canning for their work. Also to Eric McCulley and many others for their generous donations. The next open mike will be Sept. 25.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Diligent River Hall will hold a casserole and dessert supper. This hall has a reputation for wonderful food over the years and I’m sure this one will rival the best. Time is 4-6 p.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12. All proceeds will be used to work on the building and the advancement of future events.
The next service in the Diligent River Baptist Church will be on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
There will be a Thanksgiving service in the St. John’s Anglican Church on Oct. 3.
The Canning homestead was a busy place this weekend. Helen and John Dodsworth of Halifax, as well as Marjorie Gallant and Jack Hilchey were there. Eileen and I were supper guests on Saturday and we all went out to supper on Sunday at the Wild Caraway in Advocate. The evening was spent playing board games, which made for a fun family weekend.
Stand up tall and enjoy the fall weather.
