Blueberry Jam to raise money for school sports

New Salem Area Notes with Terry Gulliver

Hello from beautiful downtown New Salem. It sure didn't take long for the past two months to go by. School starts this week, so be careful when you come upon a school bus and or school areas. Follow the regulations so none of our students get hurt.

On Friday, Sept. 4 a Blueberry Jam will be held at the log building at 7 p.m. The Melanson Family, The Wazoo Blues Band and The Sands of Time will be performing. The cost is $10 at the door. Bring something blueberrie-ish for the auction that will be held. Proceeds are for Advocate District School sports.

On Saturday, Sept. 5 a food drive will be held for the Advocate and Area Food Bank, from Apple River to Fraserville starting at 10 a.m. Please ensure that products are not expired and unopened.

On Sunday, Sept. 6 the Advocate United Church service will be a joint service at Collins Field in Wards Brook at 9 a.m.

The monthly community luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at noon at the log building on Mills Road. On the menu are salads, dessert, tea and coffee. Everyone is welcome.

On Sunday, Sept. 13 the Mariner's Memorial Service will be held at the United Church at 1 p.m.

Spencer's Island Bingo will not be held for the summer but will return at the Advocate Fire Hall on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Bring a friend for an evening of fun.

The Advocate United Church services for the fall will be at the United Church at 8:30 a.m. starting Sept. 21.

That's it for this week. Have a great week, everyone, and enjoy your family and friends.
