AMHERST - Donald Furlong has entered into a letter of intent to sell Tantramar Chevrolet Buick GMC Ltd. to Steele Auto Group.
“The timing is right,” says the dealership owner, ”and I extend a sincere thank you to staff and customers for their loyalty and support over the years. This business has been my passion and my pride for a long time, but I’m looking forward to a new chapter.”
The deal, he says, marks a strong investment in the town and in the 38 employees of the business located on Robert Angus Drive. Customers will continue to be well served while the GM brand will remain as one of the region’s market leaders under the direction of auto magnate Rob Steele.
”This is a very positive story for Amherst,” he points out. “There is a confidence in this marketplace.”
Steele concurs.
“Donald and his staff have one of the best mid-sized stores in all of Canada and we are very pleased to invest in all areas to retain this standing.”
Steele, headquartered in Dartmouth, is the most diversified group of automobile dealerships in Atlantic Canada, and recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.
There have been other opportunities to sell the Amherst business, Furlong said, but the particular timing of this transaction made it possible. With a history of 32 years in the car business, he is ready to retire, travel more and spend time with his family.
“This is the correct decision for myself and my family.”
