BRIDGEWATER – The ARHS Vikings have gone back-to-back winning gold medals at two consecutive basketball tournaments.
A week after winning the Gator Classic at Central Kings in the Annapolis Valley, the Vikings won the Parkview Education Centre Panther Fever Classic on Jan. 20 with a 61-41 win over the Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals in the championship game.
The Vikings went unbeaten in the tournament, opening with a 68-46 win over the host Park View Panthers before defeating the Hants East Tigers 61-41 to secure a spot in the final.
Coach Thomas McCrossin said the wins over J.H. Gillis and Hants East were important because they are key Division 2 regional rivals.
Caleb Van Vulpen was the tournament most valuable player averaging 12 points per game while playing outstanding defence. He was the top scorer in the win over Hants East with 19 points.
Aidan Devine was named to the tournament all-star team. He was consistent throughout the tournament going double-digits in points and nearly had a rare triple-double in the final, blocking nine shots.
