Sarah Beardsley, Jordan Brett top senior athletes at River Hebert District School

RIVER HEBERT – Sarah Beardsley and Jordan Brett were named the top senior and female and male athletes of the year at River Hebert District School during its annual awards ceremony at the Brookside Curling Club on June 12.

Destiny Hicks was named the top junior female athlete with Kyle Hurley being named top junior male athlete at the school.

The top junior high student of the year award was presented to Destiny Hicks with Sarah Beardsley being named the top senior high student of the year.

The Joggins Fossil Cliffs Excellence Award was presented to Giovanni Chiello, the Jason Edward Memorial Award (For the love of the game, competition and spirit) was presented to Jordan Brett and the Patti Brown Award (sportsmanship, team spirit and enthusiasm – senior student) was presented to Sarah Beardsley.

The Chris Dowe Memorial Award (leadership, likeability, dedication and coachability – senior male) was presented to Justin Cormier with Brianna Dwyer winning the Tanya Proctor Memorial Award as most sportsmanlike player on the senior girl’s soccer team and Destiny Hicks winning the Marie LeBlanc-Damery Memorial Award as most sportsmanlike on the senior girl’s softball team.

Madison Reid won the Betty LeBlanc Memorial Award as top infielder on the senior girl’s softball team, Curtis Allen won the Bliss Terrio Memorial Award as most improved athlete of the year, Ashleigh Desjardins was presented the Timmy O’Brien Memorial for sportsmanship, team spirit and enthusiasm and Taylor Vance won the Barry Anderson Award for contribution to school athletics.

Jenna Gower was presented the Jim Morris Memorial Award (for the love of sports), Breanna Cormier received the Cheryl Marie Rhodes Award for dedication and leadership on and off the field and Kyle Hurley and Destiny Hicks received NSSAF Good Sport Awards.

In senior girl’s soccer, Destiny Hicks earned the Coaches Award with Britney Taylor winning the Most Dedicated Player award and Madalyn Breau winning the Most Improved Player award. Isabella Hurley-Carmichael was named the most valuable offensive player and Jenna Gower was named winner of the Most Valuable Player award.

Curtis Allen was named most sportsmanlike player on the senior boy’s soccer team, Brandon Hicks was the top defensive player, Kyle Hurley the top offensive player and Jarrett Burbine the MVP.

Britney Taylor was the winner of the Coaches Award on the senior girl’s basketball team with Destiny Hicks being named top rookie and Sarah Beardsley the most improved player.

Danial Rector-MacDonald was named the winner of the Coaches Award on the junior boy’s basketball team with Pierce McCulley being named most sportsmanlike. Dylan St. Peter and Bradley Patterson shared the most improved player award Landen White and Kyle Hurley shared MVP honours.

Bayden Taylor was selected the rookie of the year on the senior boy’s basketball team, Jonathan Speight was named most improved player and Jordan Brett the MVP.

In badminton, Madison Reid was named top female player, Jarrett Burbine the top male player and Landen White and Destiny Hicks the top doubles team.

Brandon Hicks won the Table Tennis Award with Brianna Dwyer, Taylor Vance and Sarah Beardsley being named team of the year.

Kyle Hurley was honoured for outstanding achievement in track and field, Chloe Fagan was named best outfielder in girl’s softball and Britney Taylor and Isabella Hurley-Carmichael shared the Coaches Award in junior girl’s softball.

Mitchell Fagan won the most dedicated player award on the senior boy’s softball team with Daniel Embree being named most improved and Cameron Lucci-Vance earning the all-star award. In junior boy’s softball, Bradley Patterson won the Coaches Award with Danial Rector-MacDonald winning the MVP award.

Citizenship awards were presented to Spencer Ackroyd and Lukah James (junior high) and Mitchell Fagan, Taylor Vance and Brianna Dwyer (senior high).

Ashleigh Desjardins, Christopher St. Peter and Kyle Desjardins were presented student volunteer awards.

Academic awards were presented to: Tristen Doncaster (most improved student Grade 7), Kathleen Sproul (most improved student Grade 8), Dylan St. Peter (most improved student Grade 9), Austyn Simpson (most improved student Grade 10), Breanna Cormier (most improved student Grade 11) and Christopher St. Peter (most improved student Grade 12).

Most dedicated student awards went to: Melissa Gower and Spencer Ackroyd (Grade 7) Ashleigh Desjardins and Landen White (Grade 8), Camie Chase and Curtis Allen (Grade 9), Abigail O’Brien and Jenna Gower (Grade 10), Emma Brine and Cassandra Burbine (Grade 11) and Sarah Beardsley and Giovanni Chiello (Grade 12).
