SPRINGHILL, N.S. – For the last five years the Springhill Rookie Fencebusters have been attending the Garfield Memorial Rookie Grand Slam Tournament at the Windsor Junction Community Centre in Fall River.

This is a great facility situated on a lake where the kids can go swimming or play at the playground between games.

On the weekend of July 27 and 28, the Fencebusters went to Windsor Junction to attend the tournament along with 11 other teams from the surrounding areas of Halifax.

With two games scheduled for Saturday, the kids went into their day coming out with a loss in the morning and a win in the afternoon.

With the kids doing their best and happy with their day, the Fencebusters would come back the next day for another game.

Once they played the game the next day they would see if this would put them into the semifinal.

Due to heavy rain the next day the fields were unplayable forcing management to reschedule the tournament to Aug. 11.

With all the kids ready to head down to Fall River for another great day of baseball, they arrived to play their third game of the tournament.

That afternoon they came out with a win, but would have to wait for another group to finish its game to see if they advanced to the semis.

It was the furthest any Fencebusters’ team had gone in the tournament. In the semis, the kids went out and played hard and had an amazing game. All their hard work resulted in a win and a spot in the finals.

With 15 minutes to take a quick break, the Fencebusters regrouped and played in the championship. They came up a little short, winning the silver medal, but they left with amazing memories.
