SACKVILLE, N.B. – Terry Rhindress has been named head coach of the Mount Allison women’s hockey program.

An Amherst native, Rhindress, who lives in Riverview, N.B., joined the Mounties as an assistant coach before the 2016-17 season.

“This is an important day for our Mounties women’s hockey program,” athletic director Pierre Arsenault said in a news release. “Terry brings a great knowledge of the game and an infectious passion for competing every day. Terry’s ability to teach the game will help bring confidence to our young developing group of talented Mounties players. We’re excited to see the continued development of our program under Terry’s leadership.”

Rhindress brings a wealth of hockey experience to a Mounties program that played in the AUS championship final in both 2012 and 2014. Previous to working with the Mounties last season, Rhindress had spent the four previous seasons as the head coach of the Moncton Vitos of the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League. While serving as head coach, Rhindress and the Vitos won three league championships and they also won one Atlantic Junior B Championship.

"This is truly a great honour to be named head coach of Mount Allison University Women's Hockey Program,” offered Rhindress. “It will be exciting to get things going and start the process for next season. We have a great core on our team and we will continue to grow and develop.”

Prior to his stint with the Vitos, Rhindress served two years as head coach and general manager with the Bridgewater Lumberjacks of the Maritime Hockey League.

Rhindress also has experience working with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, both as assistant coach with the Acadie Bathurst Titan and as a scout with the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

While with Drummondville, Rhindress was part of a team that won the Presidents Cup.

Rhindress, who got his coaching start in the Amherst and Area Minor Hockey Association and the Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association, is no stranger to Hockey Canada’s program of excellence either, having served as an assistant coach with Team Atlantic at the Under 17 level and an assistant coach at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
