AMHERST – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers got goals from four different players en route to a 4-2 win over the Campbellton Tigers in Maritime Junior Hockey League action on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Ramblers moved closer to grabbing second place in the Eastlink South Division and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the South Shore Lumberjacks.
Amherst is in Truro tonight to face the Bearcats at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre while on Saturday the club has its home finale at the Amherst Stadium against the Weeks Crushers. Game time is 7 p.m.
On Wednesday, Jordan King opened the scoring just 50 seconds in when he was left all alone in front of the Tigers net with Will Lafford, who carried the puck behind the goal before throwing it out front to King, adding an assist.
Pierre-Luc Lurette tied the game on the power play at 11:48 before Dawson Grenier scored a shorthanded marker at the 13:55 mark of the middle period to give the Ramblers a 2-1 lead.
The Ramblers scored two goals in the middle of the final period to take a 4-1 lead with Will Bower and Felix LeBlanc scoring. Brady Griffin-Hefford, Layton Parsons, Brock McEwen and Jordan Renaud adding assists.
Trevor Bush scored for the Tigers in the final minute to round out scoring in the game.
Both teams had 33 shots on goal in the game, but Joel Goguen was key in the Ramblers’ goal to earn first star honours. The Rambler goalie was especially good during five consecutive Tigers’ power play opportunities in the first two periods.
South Shore has three games remaining, including two against the Valley Wildcats (last night and Saturday) while they are in Yarmouth on Saturday. Amherst was four points up on South Shore going into last night’s game.
