SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers are another step closer to hosting the Fred Page Cup.
The Ramblers made their bid presentation to a selection committee during the Maritime Junior Hockey League Showcase in Summerside, P.E.I. on Tuesday.
“I thought it went very well,” Ramblers coach and general manager Jeff LeBlanc said. “Anytime you have someone of the quality of Bill Schurman doing your presentation and being chairman of the event you know it’s going to be well done.”
Schurman, who is also Amherst’s recreation director, led the bid team to Summerside, where as recreation director he hosted the Centennial Cup, the RBC and numerous national and world softball and baseball championships.
He was joined by members of the town’s recreation staff as well as several members of the Amherst Ramblers executive, including president Andrew Reid.
LeBlanc said he was blown away by the video that was put together by a Moncton production company as part of the bid process.
Amherst and the Valley Wildcats are the two teams bidding to host the tournament that will take place in April 2019.
It’s the third time the Ramblers have bid for the Fred Page Cup, losing out to the Truro Bearcats for the 2013 tournament; and Woodstock for the 2016 tournament.
The selection committee was expected to make a recommendation to the MHL on Thursday.
