AMHERST – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers have added goalie Oliver Troop to provide some support while starter Cody Porter is out with an injury.
The Ramblers sent future considerations and a sixth-round pick to the South Shore Lumberjacks in return for the 17-year-old Troop, who started the season with the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL.
“On Saturday night, Cody suffered an upper body injury. His timeline isn’t long, but we felt we needed security in case it’s longer than anticipated. It’s not easy to get affiliate goalies in January and February,” coach and GM Jeff LeBlanc said.
Troop was released by the Remparts on Jan. 5 and didn’t have a lot of options as most midget and junior programs have already set their rosters. South Shore was set in goal, but made a deal with Amherst.
Oliver played for Newbridge Academy last season.
On Tuesday, the Ramblers acquired Jordan Renaud from the Nepean Raiders, sending future considerations the other way.
“We feel we added speed, experience and a player that competes to our group today,” LeBlanc said. “We only had 11 forwards since acquiring Will Bower almost a month ago, so adding one was a priority.”
In three CCHL seasons, Renaud had 60 points in 129 games and adding 110 penalty points.
Ramblers home Saturday
The Ramblers are home for and inter-division game against the Yarmouth Mariners at 7:00 p.m., Saturday night at Amherst Stadium. The Ramblers also play Sunday. They are at the Kings Mutual Century Centre to face off against the Valley Wildcats at 2 p.m.
Standings
As of Thursday, the Mariners led the Eastlink South Division with 45 points, six points up on the Ramblers. The Ramblers were in Pictou County Thursday night to play the Weeks Crushers, and the Mariners play the Crushers Friday night.

Ramblers captain Jordan King leads the Ramblers with 50 points, 18 goals and 32 assists in 29 games.
Brady Griffin-Heford is second with 29 points, 15 goals and 14 assists in 27 games.
Liam Conrad is third with 25 points, 12 goals and 13 assists in 26 games.
Defenceman Dawson Grenier is fourth with 22 points, four goals and 18 assists in 29 games.
Layton Parsons is fifth with 18 points, nine goals and nine assists in 29 games.
