Springhill Eagles win Mini-Boys tournament

BROOKDALE – Trey Smith-Johnston’s 23 points helped lead the Springhill Eagles to victory Saturday at Cumberland North Academy.

Springhill won the boys side of the three-day, Amherst Minor Basketball Association tournament with a 40-31 win against the Amherst A’s in the championship game.

Other Springhill scorers included Stetson Sullivan with eight points, Dawson Varner with six and Ethan Ferdinand with two.

Smith-Johnson received the Hustler of the Game Award for the Eagles and Sullivan the Coach’s Choice Award.

Nathan Hampel scored 11 points for the Amherst A’s, Kaden Allen added nine, Brady Farrish seven, and Ben Sprague three.

Shian Sinclair received the Hustler of the Game Award for the A’s and Noah Petton the Coach’s Choice Award.

Springhill made it to the final with a 33-31 win over Amherst, and a 25-23 win over River Hebert.

Amherst made it to the final with a 39-36 in over River Hebert and a 49-10 win over Pugwash.

River Hebert beat Pugwash 34-3 in the bronze-medal game.

The teams are made up of players in Grades 5 and 6.

The Amherst A’s, Team Gould, won the girls side of the tournament with a 45-21 win over the Springhill Eagles.

Girls results will be in in Friday’s edition of the Amherst News.
