HALIFAX A man has been found guilty in a 2005 boat crash on Halifax harbour that killed a passenger.

Daniel William MacKay of Hatchet Lake has been convicted of dangerous operation of a vessel causing death.

Car salesman Ken Juteau, 41, was killed and four others were injured in the early hours of July 4, 2005, when the cigarette boat crashed in Bedford Basin.

Juteaus body was recovered 11 days later.

MacKays trial heard that the boat travelled up Halifax harbour at an excessive speed when it hit a buoy and overturned.

He will be sentenced May 2.

MacKay was acquitted of a more serious charge of criminal negligence causing death.

He faces a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison instead of life for criminal negligence.
