AMHERST, N.S. – Burke Beed threw a one-hitter while striking out 10 as the Mixers defeated the Lions 4-2 to win the 2018 Amherst Little League A system playoff championship.
Beed walked only four in the win.
Hayden Crocket with a double and Jackson Reid with a single provided the offence for the Mixers, who swept the best-of-five series.
Reece MacDonald was equally effective on the mound for the Lions, giving up ust two hits, walking three and striking out nine.
Nolan McNally singled for the Lions only hit.
The Carters Cresting Cubs claimed the consolation championship with a 17-10 win over the Y’s Guys.
Ryan Wilson, Sawyer Harvey and Kieran Sears pitched for the Cubs, giving up nine hits, walking eight and striking out seven. Aaden McAloney and Caleb Oulton pitched for the Y’s Guys. They gave up 11 hits, walked 12 and struck out seven.
Sawyer Harvey homered (an inside-the-park grand slam), singled and doubled for the Cubs with Kieran Sears hitting a double and a triple and Connor Hunter hitting a home run.
Jaxon Reynolds singled twice, Brady Farrish singled and doubled and Ryan Wilson singled.
Chase Livingston singled twice and doubled for the Y’s Guys and Caleb Oulton singled and doubled. Ashton Wilcox doubled and Logan Boudreau, Nick Atkinson and Mason Sloan singled.
The A and B system closing banquet will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Amherst Lions Community Centre.
