MONCTON – Amhersts Jacob Melanson had an assist as Nova Scotia defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 7-2 on Monday to win the Under-15 gold medal at the Atlantic Challenge Cup played in Moncton.

Melanson assisted on Nova Scotias first goal of the game by Daniel Kline as the gold medal winning team opened up a 4-0 second period lead and cruised to the win.

Melanson, who is the captain of the Truro Major Bantam Bearcats, had a goal in Nova Scotias opening 4-2 win over host New Brunswick and added an assist in an 8-5 win over Prince Edward Island and another assist in a 7-1 win over Newfoundland and Labrador on Saturday.

On Sunday, Melanson had a goal and an assist in a 7-1 win over Prince Edward Island.
