Ramblers snap Lumberjacks nine-game win streak

King, Conrad and LeBlanc score two goals each

AMHERST, N.S. – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers dodged a third-period comeback surge to beat South Shore Lumberjacks 7-4 Saturday night at Amherst Stadium.

The third period started with the Ramblers up 5-2 before the Lumberjacks scored two to make it a 5-4 game.

Then, with a little over a minute left the Lumberjacks went with the extra attacker and hit a post, nearly tying the game 5-5, before Jordan King scored the empty netter with 57 seconds left in the game off an assist from Lucas Sangster.

Felix LeBlanc scored an extra-insurance goal with 19 seconds left in the game, giving the Ramblers the 7-4 win.

First Period

South Shore scored two quick goals to start the game, at 1:20 and 1:47, to take a 2-0 lead before Jordan King scored on the power play at 17:14 into the first off passes from Dawson Grenier and Jake Barter.

Second Period

The Ramblers scored four unanswered goals in the second.

Liam Conrad scored two of the goals, and Grenier and LeBlanc scored one each. Brady Griffin-Hefford and Brock McEwen assisted on two of the goals, and Barter, Tayden Woods and Layton Parsons had one assist each.

Goaltending

The Ramblers outshot the Lumberjacks 42-30. Julian Galloway played in net for the Ramblers.

Penalties

South Shore had three penalties in the first period, each team had one penalty each in the second period, and the Ramblers had three penalties in the third period.

Attendance

Game attendance was 878.

Friday Night

The Ramblers were in Lunenburg Friday night where they lost 5-3 to the Lumberjacks.

First Period

The Ramblers Thomas Ashe scored the only goal of the first period, giving the Ramblers a 1-0 lead going into the second. Barter and King assisted on the goal.

Second Period

Conrad and LeBlanc scored for the Ramblers in the second period, and the period ended with the Ramblers up 3-2. Conrad scored on a power play off passes from King and Grenier. LeBlanc scored off feeds from Woods and King.

Third Period

The Lumberjacks scored three unanswered goals in the third period, winning the game 5-3. Their last goal was an empty-netter.

Goaltending

Joe Goguen played in net for the Ramblers, stopping 31 of the 35 shots he faced.

His teammates had 33 shots on the Lumberjacks net.

Game Attendance

Attendance was 781.

Standings

With the win the Ramblers are third in the Eastlink South Division with 18 points, six points behind both the Lumberjacks and Yarmouth Mariners who are tied in first with 24 points each.

Point Board

Jordan King is third in the Maritime Hockey League with 23 points in 14 games, eight goals and 15 assists. Liam Conrad is fifth with 19 points, nine goals and 10 assists. Dawson Grenier is 11th in the league with 15 points, four goals and 11 assists.

Upcoming Games

The Ramblers are on the road until Nov. 18, when they host the Valley Wildcats at 7 p.m.

They have three games in the next two weeks. On Thursday they’re in New Glasgow to play the Crushers, on Saturday they’re in Miramichi to play the Timberwolves, and then on Nov. 10 they’re in Truro to play the Bearcats.
