AMHERST, N.S. - After a successful season seeing the U-17 team winning Highland League on Aug. 26 and placing second in Easter Soccer League (N.B.) championship on Aug. 27, the team headed off to Lunenburg for Soccer NS Tier IIB provincials on the September long weekend.
The first game saw the girls matched up with a team from East Hants. The team hit the pitch ready to meet the challenge and won 4-1 with two goals scored by Brianna Warwick and two from Jenna Gower.
In the second game of round robin play, Fundy met host team West Nova Fuels. It was a tough match throughout with both teams battling it out from the first whistle to the last. West Nova Fuels Elena Green scored two goals with Ceilidh Bennett answering with one.
Final score 2-1 placing Fundy second in their pool and securing a place in the crossover Sunday morning.
Kings West Marsters, who placed first in their pool, were ready to go early Sunday morning. In another well-matched game. Katy Baker and Brianna Warwick found the net to bring Fundy a 2-0 win and advancing Fundy to the championship game.
Fundy met host team West Nova Fuels in the gold medal match. Brianna Warwick scored early in the first half with Elena Green tying it up.
Elena Green scored again bringing the score to 2-1. Despite multiple attempts, Fundy was not able to tie it up before regulation time.
Coaches Ron Gould and Dan McSwain were proud of the girls’ effort and improvement throughout the season. Players of the game honours were given to Kelsey Boudreau, Keira Dyck, Ceilidh Bennett and Brianna Warwick.
