WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers fired player-personnel director John Murphy on Sunday.

The move comes just two days after the CFL club hired Joe Mack as its vice-president of football operations. Murphy joined the Bombers last year after spending the 2008 campaign as the director of scouting for the Grey Cup-champion Calgary Stampeders. He was responsible for the development and management of the Bombers' scouting networks. Winnipeg missed the CFL playoffs last season after finishing third in the East Division standings with a 7-11 record. But Murphy's future with the club came into question in the off-season with the resignation of president and CEO Lyle Bauer and the firing of head coach Mike Kelly. Murphy had reported to both Bauer and Kelly. Murphy is also the owner and operator of Next Level Scouting Inc, a company that he's run for 11 years. Murphy's Next Level Scouting Inc. provides detailed scouting information to all 32 NFL teams.
