Amherst Athletics lose in Nova Scotia Midget AA semifinal

AMHERST – The Amherst Athletics wrapped up the 2018 season with a 3-0 loss to the Cape Breton Expos in the Baseball Nova Scotia Midget AA Championship Tournament in Stellarton.

Mackenzie Comeau and Graden Chitty pitched for Amherst in the semifinal loss, giving up five hits, walking one and striking out 11.

Cole Stevens doubled and Jayden Matheson, Brandon Hicks and Zach Boudreau each singled once.

Amherst opened the tournament with a 7-4 win over the Hants North Blue Jays.

Cal Hoeg and Comeau each singled twice while Jackson Comeau and Matheson singled once.

Mackenzie Comeau, Hoeg and Hicks pitched for Amherst. They combined on a three-hitter, walking four and striking out four.

In their second contest, Amherst thumped the Tri-County Rangers 16-0 in four innings.

Hoeg with two singles and Mackenzie Comeau, Chitty, Julian MacDonald, Matthew Hunter and Ryan Power each singled.

Stevens and Jackson Comeau each pitched, giving up no hits or walks and striking out five.

The provincial tournament concluded what has been a very successful season for the Athletics, who placed second on the Bluenose Midget AA Baseball League.
