AMHERST – The Amherst A’s Under-14 boys basketball team are in Halifax this weekend for the Basketball Nova Scotia, Division 6 provincial championships.
Head coach Cayne Amos says good defence is the key to their success.
“I like how the kids have progressed on defence over the season, both individually and as a team,” said Amos. “The boys are doing a really good job of playing their man and helping out on defence if a teammate gets beat.”
The Amherst A’s, a team that plays in the Amherst Minor Basketball Association, is at Chebucto Heights Elementary School tonight to kick off their tournament with a game against Acadia Minor at 7:45 p.m.
On Saturday, they will be at Brookside Junior High School for two games. They play the Cole Harbour Rockets at 9 a.m., and then the West End Steelers at 4:30 p.m.
The crossover games and championship game are played Sunday at Brookside Junior High School.
Amos says a provincial banner is the ultimate goal, and added that his hard-working team is excited to compete for the banner.
“I feel we have a team that can compete as long as we keep things simple and play the way I know we can play,” said Amos. “There will be no easy games for anyone when they play us, and the opposing teams will have to out work us for the win.”
