Vikettes nip Tigers to win Gator Classic

ARHS rallies from 11-point deficit in championship game

AMHERST – Down 11 with just four minutes to go, the Amherst Regional High School Vikettes made an improbably comeback to defeat the Hants East Tigers 57-55 to win the championship at the Central Kings Gator Classic tournament last weekend.

The win was capped off by Emma Bickerton who sank a pair of free throws in the games dying moments to break a 55-55 tie and give the Vikettes the win.

Olivia Scott led the way offensively for the Vikettes in the championship game, scoring 21 points while Ceilidh Bennett chipped in 13 points. Keira Dyck and Emma Gould each chipped in six points, Chloe Stubbert added five and Emma Bickerton and Sharon McCrossin each scored four.

In the semifinal, Amherst got 14 points from Olivia Scott and 13 from Emma Gould to defeat Kings-Edgehill 42-37.

Keira Dyck with four, Taneka Hussey, Ceilidh Bennett and Sharon McCrossin with three each and Becca Fromm with two also scored for the Vikettes.

In their opener, Keira Dyck scored 11 points and Emma Gould added 10 as the Vikettes defeated North East Kings 66-35.

Ceilidh Bennett and Darcy Gould each scored nine points in the win while Jenna Todoschuk and Emma Bickerton each scored five. Olivia Scott, Becca Fromm and Sharon McCrossin each scored four, Chloe Stubbert had three and Taneka Hussey had two.

Ceilidh Bennett scored 17 points, Darcy Gould had 10 and Olivia Scott nine as the Vikettes defeated Horton JV 62-46.

Sharon McCrossin scored eight for Amherst with Emma Bickerton and Keira Dyck each scoring seven. Jenna Todoschuk and Chloe Stubbert each had two.

The Vikettes return to action this weekend at the Holiday Classic tournament in Sackville, N.B.
