AMHERST – The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers won both exhibition games of their home-and-home stand against the Miramichi Timberwolves over the weekend, outscoring them 9-2.
The Ramblers beat the Timberwolves 5-0 on Saturday at Amherst Stadium and 4-2 in Miramichi Sunday afternoon.
The Timberwolves took a 1-0 lead at 16:05 into the first period, but 28 seconds later Brandon Stone (21) scored off a pass from Brandon Stone (9), tying the game 1-1.
Tayden Woods gave the Ramblers a 2-1 lead before the end of the first period off a pass from Simon Henman.
The Ramblers took jumped ahead 3-1 at 2:30 into the second period when Bradley Dawe scored off passes from Woods and Henman.
Miramich answered at the 3:57 mark off, and the second period ended with the Ramblers up 3-2.
Brock McEwan scored the only goal of the third period, giving the Ramblers the 4-2 win. The goal was unassisted.
Goaltending duties were split between Joel Gougen and Allen Kirklin.
Layton Parsons scored the first goal Saturday night, a shorthanded goal, in their 5-0 shutout of the Timberwolves.
Cole Darrach assisted on the goal.
Lucas Sangster and Cole Darrach scored for the Ramblers in the second period, giving their team a 3-0 lead. Woods assisted on the Sangster goal and Jordan King on the Darrach goal.
Brady Griffin-Hefford scored both Ramblers goals in the third period.
King and Woods assisted on the first goal and the second was unassisted.
Julian Galloway played in goal for the Ramblers, stopping all 28 shots he faced. His teammates had 32 shots on the Timberwolves net.
The Ramblers are Summerside on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before coming back to Amherst on Saturday to conclude the exhibition schedule against Summerside at 7:30 p.m.
The Ramblers regular season home-opener is Saturday, Sept. 16 when the Pictou County Weeks Crushers come to Amherst Stadium.
