Amherst team earns 1-0 win over host Yarmouth Clippers in final

Fundy United defeated Yarmouth 1-0 to win the U13B Boys Soccer Nova Scotia championship on Sept. 10. YARMOUTH - It was a long drive from Amherst to Yarmouth for U13B Boys Soccer Nova Scotia provincials, but it was a worthwhile drive as the Fundy team brought home the gold medal.

Fundy played the host team Yarmouth Clippers in the championship game on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Both teams had a 3-0 record heading into the final.
Penalty shots proved to be turning points in the game that ended 1-0 in Fundy’s favour. In the first half, Yarmouth stopped a penalty kick but in the ensuing celebration let their guard down with Fundy scoring very shortly afterwards.
Nicholas Lawrence scored the goal.
With the game in the final minutes of the second half, Yarmouth had the opportunity to tie the game on a penalty kick but Fundy’s keeper Brennan VanVulpen – who was named man of the match following the game – blocked the hard shot preventing the host team from getting onto the scoreboard.
Some other shots off the goal posts and crossbar, couple with solid goaltending, also kept the Yarmouth Clippers off the score sheet.
Prior to the championship game Fundy had defeated Thunder 4-0. Goal scorers were Max Baker, Callum Chitty, Sam Harrison and Nolan Starratt.
Fundy downed East Hants 3-1. Scoring were Callum Chitty, Sam Harrison and Conor Barrett.
Fundy also downed Glace Bay 3-0. Scoring were Callum Chitty, Brody MacDonald and Nolan Starratt.
East Hants won the bronze medal at provincials with a 5-3 win over Kingston/Greenwood in a game that went into overtime.

U13B Soccer Nova Scotia provincials championship game between host team Yarmouth and Fundy. The game was a 1-0 final for Fundy. After their provincials win, members of the Fundy team swarm keeper Brennan VanVulpen, who played solid and net and blocked a penalty kick from the opposing team in the final minutes of the game.
