Following Sunday sweep over Halifax in qualifying tournament

AMHERST – The Amherst Athletics are heading to the Baseball Nova Scotia Bantam A provincial tournament after sweeping the Halifax Mets at the Dwight Jones Memorial Field on Sunday.

The Athletics, who needed to beat the Mets twice on Sunday after losing their final round robin game Saturday night, scored four times in the fourth inning and added three more in the seventh en route to an 11-8 win to earn the right to attend the provincial championship tournament in Eastern Passage from Sept. 1 to 3.
Matt Hunter tripled in the win for Amherst while Zach Boudreau, Jayden Matheson, Julian MacDonald and Kyle McCarthy each singled once.
Julian MacDonald earned the pitching win for Amherst while Ty Beed earned the save. They gave up five hits, walked three and struck out eight.
In the early game, Amherst was down to their final out trailing 5-4 in the top of the seventh when they exploded for six runs to force the deciding game with a 10-5 win.
Jayden Matheson and Julian MacDonald pitched for Amherst. They gave up eight hits, walked none and struck out eight.
Zach Boudreau hit two singles in the win with Julian MacDonald hitting a triple. Jayden Matheson hit two singles with Ty Beed, Burke Beed, Madden Miller and Matt Hunter each adding singles.
Amherst opened the four-team qualifier with a 10-2 win over the East Hants Nationals on Friday.

In their second game, the Athletics defeated the Hammonds Plains A’s 16-6.
Julian MacDonald homered and singled for Amherst, while Zach Boudreau hit two singles and double and Jayden Matheson and Ryan Rideout each singled and doubled. Matt Hunter doubled, Kyle McCarthy tripled and Ty Beed singled.
