Ramblers’ playoff run ends
TRURO, N.S. – After coming back twice, the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers couldn’t do it a third time dropping a 5-4 decision to the Truro Bearcats in MHL Eastlink South Division final series action on Monday.
Amherst team goes unbeaten to win Nova Scotia title
The Amherst Spartans claimed the Basketball Nova Scotia Under-18 Division 3 championship. AMHERST – The Amherst Spartans went undefeated to claim the Basketball Nova Scotia Under-18 Division 3 girl’s championship.
The majority of the team is in the Under-16 category, including five Grade 9s. The club returned three players from last year's provincial championship team: Kylee Balser, Emma Gould, Ceilidh Bennett.
Provincials were hosted by East Preston Rec Centre.
Amherst went 5-0 over the course of the weekend, with wins over Oxford, Slam, Jr. Mystics and Cape Breton West before beating Slam in the gold medal game 53-40.
Kylee Balser, the only senior, averaged 14.5 points per game and was named tournament MVP.
Grade 9 point guard Keira Dyck was solid all weekend and was named to the tournament all-star team. Other notable performances came from the inside scoring of Grade 11 forward Emma Gould, and the defensive prowess of Grade 10 forward Ceilidh Bennett, who was tasked with shutting down the opposing team's best player every game
