“Players (in the league) showed a tremendous amount of improvement over the course of the season,” said Matt Bartley, B-System co-ordinator.

AMHERST – The entire 2014 Amherst Little League B-System season came down to the final at bat Tuesday morning on the Landry little league field.

With his team down 6-4, the bases loaded, two out and two strikes against him, Springhill’s Carter Sharpe needed to hit a triple for Harrison’s Home Hardware to win Game 3 of the best-of-three championship series against Sprott Power.

“I was nervous, all the pressure was on,” said Sharpe after the game.

With one crack of the bat Sharpe sprinted for first base.

Kieran Sears crossed the plate, making it a 6-5 game, then the tying run, River Sears-Tower, slid into home plate taking the catcher and ball momentarily out of play, and then the game-winning runner, Mattix McBurnie, also of Springhill, ran across home plate to give his team the 7-6 win.

“It felt really good to get the hit,” said Sharpe as his team celebrated the win.

Aidan McBurnie and Keona DeBay hit one double each for Harrisons, and Kieran Sears and Mattix McBurnie hit two singles each.

Phoenix Remington, River Sears-Tower, Connor LeBlanc-Smith, Ethan Rose, Brody Gill and Sebastion DiMichele hit one single each for Harrison’s.

Logan Pipes led Sprott with one double and one single, Brandon LeBlanc hit a double and Kirkland Porter and Burke Beed hit two singles each.

Michael Noiles added one single.

B-System plays four innings.

Before Sharpe’s hit, Sprott led the entire game. They took a 1-0 lead in the first, a 4-3 lead in the second, and were up a 5-4 after three innings. After the top of the fourth they were up 6-4.

Harrison’s also won the 2014 regular season pennant.

“Players (in the league) showed a tremendous amount of improvement over the course of the season,” said Matt Bartley, B-System co-ordinator, who also pitched B-System games using a pitching machine. “The overall skill went up a lot and they developed a better understanding of the game.”
