TRURO – Five members of the Spartans Swim Club recently took to the pool in Truro and came out with awards and a sense of accomplishment.

“This was the first swim meet for three of these swimmers,” said coach Jan Matthews, “And all of them performed very well.

First-timers Rebecca Stone, Donald Black and Samuel Clark swam all personal best times. Stone placed second in each of her events and qualified to compete at the next level of the Nova Tech program.

“Just joining a swim club can be intimidating and we emphasize that each swimmer will progress at their own pace,” said Matthews. “Making the decision to attend a competition can be a big step. The results from this meet should help to reinforce each swimmer’s individual achievements and accomplishments.”

Lindsay Jurcina recorded two top-ten finishes as she improved her times in each of her events, while John Adams earned two personal bests during the competition.

The swimmers are preparing for their provincial championships later in the spring.
