Female Midget A hockey provincials in Springhill this weekend

The Nova Ice Midget A girl’s hockey team host the Midget A Girls provincial championships this weekend in Springhill. SPRINGHILL – The Nova Ice Midget A girls hockey team is hosting the 2014 Hockey Nova Scotia provincial championships this weekend at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.

The five-team tournament features Nova Ice, the Colchester Cyclones, the Pictou County Subway Selects, the Eastern Shore Mariners and the Yarmouth Mariners.

Nova Ice is a regional team made up of players from the Cumberland County Minor Hockey League Association and the Parrsboro Minor Hockey Association.

Nova Ice players come from Spencer’s Island, Tatamagouche, Springhill, Parrsboro and Amherst.

The team has had much success this season, winning the inaugural Subway Cup, hosted by Pictou in November, and winning the Dairy Queen Girl’s Hockey Tournament, which was held throughout southeastern N.B., after Christmas.

Nova Ice coach is Bliss Walton of Parrsboro, and Bonnie Moore is the team manager.

The tournament wraps up on Sunday.
