YMCA Strong Kids tournament sees strong competition

The Cumberland YMCA's Strong Kids Ball Hockey Tournament saw young people teams up with members of the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers for an afternoon of action.

AMHERST – The action was fierce as several teams battled for the YMCA Strong Kids Cup during a youth ball hockey tournament on Wednesday.

Teams in the ages eight to 11 and 12 to 15 groups were matched up with members of the Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers for the tournament with two teams in the younger division playing a best-of-seven series while several teams played a round robin the older division.

The BBKD Team won the older category. The team was made up of Brody Deegan, Dylan Deean, Kurtis Langille, Bailey Embree, Brandon MacCallum and Brenden McCallum.

Tough Guys Wear Pink, which includes Thane McAloney, Ryan Rideout, Ryan Rideout, Ryan Smith, River Tower and Connor Robichaud, won the younger division.

The ball hockey tournament was part of the launch of the Cumberland YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign that aims to raise $100,000 to ensure opportunities are available to children who have a financial need.

Along with the ball hockey tournament, the campaign includes numerous fundraisers throughout the year.
