Oxford wins silver medal at OREC Jr. Boys Invitational Tournament

OXFORD-The Truro Junior High Panthers defeated the Oxford Regional Education Centre Golden Bears 56-54 to win the OREC Jr. Boys Invitational.

“The tournament ended with one of the best games I've seen in a while,” said  OREC junior boys coach Mike Hudson on Saturday following the game. “The Truro Junior High Panthers beat the OREC Golden Bears 56-54 in overtime in a nail bitter that featured seven lead changes in the last quarter and overtime.”

The player of the game for OREC in the gold medal game was Alex Rushton who finished with 20 points.  Ishraq Hassan, who scored 15 points in the championship game, was named player of the game/Most Valuable Player for Truro Jr. High.

In other tournament action, the Pugwash Panthers defeated the EB Chandler Cheetahs 45-31 to win third while the Parrsboro Warriors defeated the Springhill Screaming Eagles by a score of 42-34 to finish the tournament in fifth place.

EB Chandler finished fourth while Springhill finished the tournament in sixth.

“Overall it was a great tournament that featured great basketball,” said Hudson. “The highlight of the tournament was the championship game that featured the favourites to win in Truro versus the home team. The atmosphere was intense.”
