AMHERST – Ryan Horseman tied the game 2-2 in the third period, and then scored the game winner in overtime to give his Amherst Colts a 3-2 win over the Srpyfield Silver and Black Attack Sunday afternoon at Amherst Stadium.

“We show the boys direction but you have to give kudos to those 20 young players in the dressing room. They came through when it counted,” said Kevin Phinney, Colts head coach, after the game.

With the win the Colts are now tied for the top spot with the Attack in the Nova Scotia Junior C Hockey League standings with 35 points each.

“It’s a big two points and we’re going to keep moving forward,” said Phinney.

Neither team could score in the first period but Spryfield took a 2-0 lead early in the second period before Andrew Barron was able to cut the Attack lead in half with 13:11 left in the period.

Horseman score with 18:15 left in the third, and scored with 3:17 left in overtime.

Colts goaltender Brad Oostrem stopped 40 of 42 shots, while the Colts had 33 shots on Attack goaltender Connor McKenna.

The Colts host the Attack again next Sunday at 4 p.m.

“Every game is important,” said Phinney. “We have to keep digging and digging hard.”
