AMHERST - It has been months in the making but the moment has finally arrived, and they are ready to go.

The Aerials Gymnastics Club is hosting the 2013 Nova Scotia Gymnastics Provincials Championships this weekend at Amherst Regional High School.

"Up until this point I was thinking that everything was good, but now that it's almost here I'm getting anxious and excited," said Aerials coach Michelle Landry. "It will be nice to see it all come together."

The team hosted their annual March Break Invitational last month but this is the first time they've ever hosted the provincials.

"Holding our March Break meet we know what to expect, but with provincials we want everybody to know that it's the provincials and we want them to walk in the gymnasium and say, 'Wow,'" said Landry.

The provincials also have a bigger diversity of gymnasts.

"We have four sessions of girls at all levels. We have national level girls to the younger girls, and it's the same with the boys," said Landry.

The girls compete Friday and Saturday, and the boys compete Sunday, which means they have a lot of gymnastics equipment to build up and tear down.

"On Friday we go to Halifax to pick up boys equipment," said Landry. "And then on Saturday when the girls are done we tear down the girls equipment and set the boys equipment up.

"On Sunday, after the boys are done, we tear everything done, bring everything back to the gym, and then on Monday we bring the boys equipment back to Halifax. Finally, on Tuesday we set our own equipment back up at the gym."

It is Kyrsten Landry's last competitive meet.

She said it's heartbreaking knowing she is wrapping up her career as gymnast.

"I've got my act together since the PEI meet, so I hope to do well," said Kyrsten.

She also designed the logo for this year's provincial championships.

"It took about half an hour to design," said Landry. "It's nice to see my logo on everything since it's my last year."

There will be 270 gymnasts competing in Amherst, and Michelle hopes there are a lot of spectators at the event.

"There's gymnasts of all ages so there is something for everybody," she said. "And the boys will be competing, so we hope it inspires interest in the boys part of gymnastics."
