AMHERST – It’s full steam ahead for the Amherst Aerials Gymnastics Club gymnasts as they head into their third meet of the season beginning today at the Titans Gymnastics meet in Dartmouth.

“They’ve been working very hard and there’s been lots of improvements since their last meet,” said Aerials coach Michelle Landry as she watched the girls flip, fly and balance on the various apparatuses throughout the club. “They’ve really been pulling it together.”

The club hosts the provincial championships April 5 to 7, and two girls on the competitive roster still need to qualify for the provincials – Kirsten Mason and Darcy Fullerton.

“It would nice to get both of them qualified because we want everybody on the team to be able to compete at provincials,” said Landry.

Landry said the team is excited to be hosting provincials but they have a few more meets to attend before that, including the Amherst Open at Amherst Regional High School next weekend.

That means the club will be busy late next week tearing down all their equipment and bringing to ARHS. After the meet they will bring everything back to the club, and then they will have to do it all over again for the provincials in April.

“We’ll have about 200 gymnasts attending the Amherst Open and about 270 gymnasts attending the provincial championships,” said Landry.
