Armageddon leaves records in tatters

AMHERST – Armageddon passed through Amherst on Saturday and left 20 national records broken in its wake.

Of the 20 national records broken at the Autumn Armageddon Powerlifing Championship Saturday at the Wandlyn Inn, local lifters broke 10 of them.

Chelsea Cluett broke four records, Marson Coleman broke three, and Tyler Sangster, Paul Fury and Cindy Costin-Fury broke one record each.

Five members of the Amherst Powerlifting Club competed, and finished with first and second place trophies in their weight classes. They are: Marson Coleman, first place; Tyler Sangster, second place; Ian Cormier, second place; Chelsea Cluett, first place; and Matt Watson, second place.

Other results from the event are as follows:

Best Male Equipped Lifter: Ross Saldan of Montreal.

2nd Best Male Equipped Lifter: Henning Metz of Fredericton.

Best Male Raw Lifter: Greg Doucette of Halifax.

2nd Best Male Raw Lifter: Jean-Philippe LeBlanc of Frederiction.

Best Female Raw Lifter: Nancy Bouchard of Fredericton.

Best Male Equipped Bench Only - Scott MacDiarmid of Cornwall, ON.

Best Male Raw Bench Only - Paul Fury of Amherst.

Best Female Raw Bench Only - Cindy Costin-Fury of Amherst.

Best Teen Lifter - Brett Young of Halifax.

Biggest Squat (667lbs) - Ross Saldan of Montreal.

Biggest Bench Press (601lbs) - Scott MacDiarmid of Cornwall, ON.

Biggest Deadlift (667lbs) - Greg Doucette of Halifax.
