AMHERST – The Dickey Street apartment fire victims are still in limbo Wednesday morning, waiting to learn if they can return home.

Angela Lohnes with the Red Cross says regular updates are coming in and are hopeful for the day’s outlook.

“We are receiving updates every half hour or so,” Lohnes said.  “As of 10:06 a.m. the answer is no.”

Lohnes says the Red Cross is partnering with the Salvation Army, soup kitchens department community services and others to make the process as smooth as possible for the fire victims.

The Dickey Street apartment was subjected to a late night fire Monday, displacing 29 tenants. The fire appeared to be localized to one apartment.
