FORT LAWRENCE – Cumberland County RCMP have charged a male with impaired driving by drug following a vehicle stop for speeding.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, an RCMP member, driving an unmarked police vehicle on Highway 104 westbound, noted a green Camaro pass by at a high rate of speed.

The Camaro was followed and noted to be traveling at speeds of approximately 150 km/h. The vehicle was passing other vehicles and was swerving back and forth, sometimes hitting the shoulder of the road.

A traffic stop was co-ordinated with marked units near Exit 1. Officers noted a clear odour of cannabis in the vehicle.

The driver, a 50-year-old male from the Digby area, was arrested on scene and is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and driving while his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.
