YELLOWKNIFE - Royal officials say Prince William and Kate will visit the northern Alberta town of Slave Lake that was heavily damaged by a wildfire in May.

More than 400 homes and businesses were destroyed in the blaze and the town is slowly rebuilding.

The plan is to leave Yellowknife on Wednesday morning and fly to Slave Lake, where the royals are to meet with residents for about two hours.

The Duke and Duchess will then go on a day-long retreat before wrapping up their nine-day visit in Calgary.
