OTTAWA - At age 94 — or maybe 95, he can't say for sure — C.B. Marsh has already met two previous kings, but was no less thrilled today at meeting the man poised to follow in their footsteps.
Marsh and his wife Edna, who's 98, have been married for 70 years — a milestone that earned them a meeting with Prince William and his wife Kate as the royal couple attended a tree planting ceremony at Rideau Hall.
Marsh describes the newlyweds are wonderful, lovely people and says they had a nice chat.
A veteran of the Second World War, a conflict he remembers as being "quite noisy," Marsh married his wife in 1941 in England before they immigrated to Canada in 1962.
He says he met King George VI during the war, and has also met King Edward VIII.
Marsh also says he and his wife were once given a pair of cigarettes by Wallis Simpson, the socialite for whom Edward abdicated the throne.
