Cobequid Sasquatch spotted

SPRINGHILL - Eyewitnesses are breathing new life into an old mystery thirty-years since it was first told.
Two area men came forward this weekend alleging to have sighted the Cobequid Sasquatch. First reported in September of 1979, Springhill's Joe King and Kody Smith claim to have witnessed the same creature first allegedly spotted by Benny Bacon and George McLeod of Springhill 30-years ago; a beast towering more than 8 ft tall and weighing 500 lb.
Just like Bacon and McLeod's sighting, the latest eyewitness account places the animal near a now-defunct landfill near the Lamp Cabin Dining Room on lower Junction Road. Bacon and McLeod claimed to have observed it for 30 seconds before it retreated into the woods, never to be seen again.
That is, until Sunday of this year, when Smith and King came forward stating they saw the Cobequid Sasquatch that morning and within walking distance of the original sighting.
"I'm not joking. The thing looked just like a gorilla. It was huge," King said.
"I know it sounds crazy but we're serious," Smith added. "It just lumbered across the road and right into the woods. Just like in the movies."
Sight evidence provided credence to the statements. Indentations in the snow near the former landfill reveal something with big feet had trodden in the area.
Phil Carter, a self-professed academic, questioned the sincerity of his friends when first told of the sighting but was soon convinced they did, indeed, see something unnatural.
"They boys were pretty upset when I didn't believe them at first," Carter said. "That right there told me they must have seen something they couldn't explain."
Carter assisted the duo photographing the find and a statement of events is expected to be forwarded to the Dept. of Natural Resources under the subject heading 'April Fools' later today.
